WiFi Connected But No Internet?

If your computer says it is connected to WiFi but websites still do not load, the issue may involve the router, internet service, DNS, network settings, or wireless drivers.

One of the most frustrating network problems is when a computer appears connected to WiFi, but nothing online actually works. The wireless icon may show a connection, yet browsers, email, and apps still cannot reach the internet.

This type of problem can have several causes, and the fix depends on whether the issue is inside the computer, inside the router, or with the internet service itself.

Common Causes

  • Router or modem connection issues
  • Internet service interruption
  • DNS problems
  • Driver issues with the wireless adapter
  • Incorrect network settings
  • IP address conflicts
  • Security software interfering with access
  • Windows network stack problems

Why This Problem Can Be Confusing

A WiFi connection only means the computer can talk to the wireless router. It does not necessarily mean the router itself still has a working internet connection.

That is why a system can say “connected” while websites still fail to load. The connection between your device and the router may be fine, while the path to the internet is broken somewhere else.

What Usually Needs To Be Checked

  • Whether other devices on the same network also have internet
  • Router and modem status
  • Wireless adapter drivers
  • IP address and DNS settings
  • Windows network troubleshooting steps
  • Whether recent updates or software changes affected networking
  • Possible hardware problems with the router or wireless adapter

When It Is the Computer vs the Network

If every device in the house has the same issue, the problem is more likely the router, modem, or internet provider. If only one device is affected, the problem is often local to that computer.

That distinction matters because it changes the direction of the troubleshooting completely.

When To Get Help

If your computer keeps showing WiFi connected but still has no real internet access, it may be time to have the problem checked properly. Guessing at random settings can make networking issues more frustrating than they need to be.

If you are in Hoschton or nearby areas and want help with WiFi or internet troubleshooting, JMG Computers can help figure out whether the issue is with the computer, router, or network setup.
